As noted much earlier, our VW Passat “Valeriu” is registered in Munich, Germany, with corresponding German license plates and a large “D” sticker on the rear end. After chatting for a few moments and glancing at our car, a British lady complimented Georgia on her English. Georgia smiled modestly.

The National Trusts for England and Scotland

We joined the National Trust for England at Chartwell, our first NT property, for membership gave us free entry to all such properties in England and Scotland. This proved not only to be a considerable financial advantage, but the NT literature steered us to a number of fascinating sites we might otherwise have not seen. American readers should consider joining the Royal Oak Society, which offers the same benefit as regular membership but with some U.S. federal tax deductibility.
